											                       The real Bowling Green Massacre.
This actually happened, by the way. On July 9, 1776, when George Washington received the news of independence, he promptly read the document out loud where he was stationed in New York. This led to a group of people marching towards the small New York park of Bowling Green to take down the statue of King George III (ordering slaves to do it, unfortunately). They shipped the statue to Connecticut (my home state) and melted it down into bullets for use in the Revolutionary War.
What poetry. If Americans are anything, they are suckers for a good metaphor.
