The protests, on their own, is an inspiring example of what this country should stand for. People of all races coming together and supporting the indigenous people standing on the front lines of Standing Rock as they fight for their inalienable rights at humans.
It gets undercut with these videos of white kids going up there thinking it's some kind of Burning Man-esque party.
At a time when even Bernie Sanders is called on the left to abandon identity politics, this is where it's needed most of all. My wife, Stephanie, was dropping off donations and supplies and told me how gross it was seeing, yet again, people of privilege adopting other people's fight as their own in the name of fun. (And likewise, I won't go further with that since that's her firsthand account to tell)
We can and need to support them to win the victory under their names and on their own terms.
