											                       Something I've been thinking about ever since we like to pretend to care about the "death of civility." Was finally able to put thoughts into words in the renewed debate ever since George H.W. Bush died. Maybe the civility debate is not so much about being nice to one another despite our differences, but finally acknowledging the real stakes that come with those differences.
Clearly it was easier to maintain "decency" when politics was a chummy boys club. And if that's what this is really about, I don't see anything good coming out of wishing for it to return.
