Oldest Trick for the Books
If you blinked, you missed it. Professor Panos Mourdoukoutas wrote an op-ed for Forbes entitled “Amazon Should Replace Local Libraries to Save Taxpayers Money” over the last weekend and it received so much backlash that Forbes ended up deleting it, citing that the article “was outside of this contributor’s specific area of expertise.”
Yeah, no kidding.
There’s few programs more beloved than public libraries. To suggest that they are a burden to the taxpayers is a weird roundabout way of admitting that you’ve never stepped foot inside of one. And yet here we are again, always forced to listen to the trickle-downers on why the remaining scraps of civilized society are an unnecessary luxury.
There’s a continued war on education in this country and those waging it won’t stop until they’ve achieved their goal of an undereducated beggar class. It’s the kind of action that President James Garfield, a former teacher and education advocate, would have found atrocious. And had he not been assassinated six months after taking office, this country would be a much different place today.
